Gifts of the Spirit are special abilities given by the Holy Spirit to believers for the edification of the church and the advancement of the gospel. The best description lists nine gifts traditionally named in the New Testament: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment of spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. This shows a broad range of insight, power, and communication meant to build up the body of Christ and affirm God’s presence among believers. The other statements don’t fit because there isn’t a fixed twelve-gift limit in Scripture; the gifts aren’t restricted to Old Testament times; and they aren’t contingent on priestly ordination but are given to believers as the Spirit wills.
