Missionary duties center on spreading the gospel, strengthening the local church, and ministering to people’s spiritual and practical needs. Being faithful and supportive to the local church helps keep the mission aligned with church leadership and united in purpose. Traveling to preach and conduct revivals and meetings is a traditional way to reach new communities with the message of Christ and to train believers. Carrying a gospel of comfort and deliverance to hospitals, jails, and convalescent homes reflects concrete mercy work—sharing hope with the hurting and showing the love of Christ in tangible ways. Engaging in political campaigning, however, isn’t part of the missionary calling; it can blur lines between church and state, risk alienating those with differing views, and divert attention from proclaiming the gospel and meeting people where they are.
